Who are GlobeBusters?
GlobeBusters was founded by Kevin and Julia Sanders, Double Guinness World Record. Holders for two of the greatest global endurance motorcycle rides in the world. But not just that. Over the past ten years, Kevin and Julia have notched up hundreds of thousands of miles riding around the world. From Siberia to Colombia, from Iran to Australia, from Finland to Bolivia and back home to the UK.
After the phenomenal Guinness World Record™ success, GlobeBusters was founded as the first overland motorcycle expedition company in the UK, specializing in taking riders on amazing journeys in unusual destinations. Using the planning and expertise that brought their amazing Guinness World Record™ successes, Kevin & Julia have designed some truly unique rides incorporating their Guinness World Record. routes (but not at the same pace!). Ride with us.
The team has expanded somewhat since the very first Trans Americas Expedition. GlobeBusters' guides are the best in the business. They are experienced travellers and motorcyclists and have many years on the road through the Americas, Africa and Australasia. It's not only about riding - they are passionate about the places we travel through too.
Kevin Sanders: Expedition Leader
Kevin has ridden bikes since he was seventeen and got his on road experience
at the deep end by doing dispatch riding in London.
Not the most glamorous of jobs, but you'll probably get no better experience for coping with crazy rush hour traffic in Latin American cities!
When not travelling around the world, Kevin's other role is as the Chief Instructor & Director for BMW Rider Training. He has taught biking to thousands of riders over the past 16 years or more, and holds the highest qualifications for advanced motorcycling available to civilians - RoSPA Gold & Diploma in Advanced Motorcycle Tuition.
The Guinness World Records. have brought many fantastic opportunities - Kevin has been consulted about planning other long distance rides, worked with the Long Way Round team and in 2005 also guided a team of BMW sponsored riders along the Trans Siberian Highway, Russia.
Kevin is the leader at the helm of GlobeBusters and with all his countless miles in different countries around the world, no other overland company can boast such an experienced person at the top. He is the "ideas" man behind all the expeditions - it's his crazy plans that we turn into fantastic rides for bikers. Never far away from a bike, Kevin is always happiest when leading a group on the spectacular roads we ride on our expeditions and sharing his unstinting enthusiasm and drive for the areas we travel in.
Julia Sanders: Expedition Operations
By profession Julia is a qualified Chartered Accountant, with a Law degree and insolvency
qualification thrown in for good measure. Until ten years ago, life was very much City based, with long commutes and even longer hours at the office.
On her first overland trip to South America, Julia met Kevin and since then, her lifestyle has dramatically changed. Julia still works freelance as an accountant, but that is in between the travelling, and she is now full time GlobeBusters. Julia's business admin and accountancy skills, means that the "back office" side of GlobeBusters and all the planning for the expedition hotels, route and other activities are under her control.
Julia has had her bike licence for the past 7 years now, but it was only after the two Guinness World Record™ "Super Pillion" efforts that she finally rode her own bike on a 22,000 mile journey from Vancouver, Canada to Ushuaia, Argentina. There is no more back seat now!
"I had relatively little riding miles under my belt when I did this ride, only about 2,000 miles in total, but I desperately wanted the challenge of riding the journey myself. What it taught me was that in fact these huge overland journeys are not simply the playground for the very experienced rider, with the right attitude, even a relative novice can enjoy the adventure."
Fil Schiannini: Expedition HQ and Green
Leopard Rep
For an Italian, Fil is one of the most calm and unflappable
people on the GlobeBusters team. He is that extremely useful person who anticipates anything before you even knew you needed it. It is amazing how many times, when we ask, he will reply "it's already done". Fil pulls together all our art design, print work, he comes to the motorcycle shows with us and when we are away, he is the one sending you out brochures, DVDs and taking your enquiry. Fil also works with Green Leopard and makes molded earplugs for riders to protect their hearing from wind noise.
You might think with all that going on, he doesn't have much time for anything else, but of course, he is an avid motorcycle rider and spends as much time as he can on the Continent, with Nikki as pillion, and meeting up with his Dad to ride his BMW R1150GS on lots of beautiful European roads.
Jeff Condon: Expedition Support Driver
Jeff is from New Zealand, when he is at home, that is Perth, Australia. Jeff is an experienced over-lander, both on bikes and 4x4. He has travelled off road through the Outback regularly and has also over-landed through Europe down to South Africa. Jeff has recently worked with Chris Scott ("Adventure Motorcycling Handbook") on his new DVD called "Gorge Riders" and even graces the cover! See www.adventure-motorcycling.com
If there is any crazy stunt to be tried out, Jeff is at the front of the queue, whether it is abseiling, paragliding, bungee jumping. Not only that, he is pretty dam useful on the road, not just because of his unlimitless amounts of energy, but also because of his mechanical knowledge.
Jeff's talents are very versatile and depending on the expedition, he either acts as our expedition motorcycle guide or the support driver - he is also a "very handy person" to have about the place.
Rod Chapman: Expedition Support Guide
Currently based in Melbourne, Australia, Rod is perhaps better known in the UK as a former Editor of British monthly Motorcycle Sport & Leisure. Now a freelance journalist and free from the shackles of permanent employment (and a decent salary!), the Aussie globetrotter's life is dictated by his two greatest loves - motorcycles and travel.
A full-time motorcycle journalist for the best part of the last decade, Rod has tested just about every major new bike released over that period, and has ridden in Europe, Africa, Australia and North America. As you can imagine, it's not hard to see why he's picked up a few handy hints and tips pertaining to biking and travel along the way.
Rod always looks forward to getting his teeth stuck into the Latin American countries and cultures, and has even expanded his knowledge of Spanish beyond the equivalent of "I'm very attractive, don't you think?"
Rod also acts as our Support Driver, where as "Tail End Charlie" he keeps out an eagle eye to make sure no-one strays from the path of righteousness - well, at least until the team reaches the bar!
